Avid’s need for speed

Sports departments at local TV news stations and regional and national sports networks are always looking for ways to get graphics on air more quickly and now they have a new option: Avid DekoMOS 3.0.

AvidDekoMOS 3.0 ties the Deko on-air graphics systems into the newsroom computer system so that up-to-the-second news and graphics can be played back on air immediately.

David Schleifer, vice president of Avid Broadcast and Workgroups, says the goal is to give journalists, writers and producers the independence to fully develop their news stories, while ensuring that the network’s brand identity remains intact.

There are a lot of tools on the market that claim to help newsrooms work faster and more easily but DekoMOS delivers tangible results, he says. It has eliminated the technical barriers between news creation, graphics, and playout, helping our customers to get to air first with accuracy and professionalism.”

Journalists, operators, and producers can use DekoMOS to select pre-approved graphic templates, as well as to add text, still images, or video clips to those graphics all from within the Avid iNews or the AP ENPS newsroom computer interface. The completed graphics automatically become part of the rundown without requiring any intervention by technical staff.

Other features include a new playback controller that improves control room efficiency by remotely triggering Deko graphics. A production switcher or other control system can activate graphics, complete with motion, effects and clip playback, without needing a graphics operator to intervene. The controller also supports up to nine channels of Deko, placing each channel under automatic or manual control (every channel also has an independent preview and status for comprehensive quality control, rundown management, and enhanced monitoring). Pricing for a 25-seat client license of DekoMOS 3.0 is $9,995.
