Technology passes Super test for ABC

Last night’s Super Bowl between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Seattle Seahawks may have lacked the on-field drama that lets a Super Bowl live up to the pre-game hype but ABC’s solid telecast was a sight to behold for HD set owners.

A wide variety of gear, from Sony’s proto-type Super Slo-Motion system to a wealth of Grass Valley HD cameras and to wireless HD systems from Link Systems (as well as the technical expertise of NEP Supershooters in Pittsburgh, PA and ABC Sports) came together to deliver a relatively glitch-free telecast that delivered sharp HD images throughout the evening.

NEP’s trucks (which included its 53-foot SS-26 for the game broadcast and the SS-18 and SS-20 to handle pre- and post-game events) relied on Grass Valley LDK 6000 mk II Worldcam HD cameras, XtenDD and Kalypso SD, HD and 4000 series SD switchers, as well as the Trinix, Concerto, and SMS 7000 Series routing switchers. NEP’s Silver HD truck, which features LDK 6000 mk II Worldcam HD cameras, a Kalypso HD switcher, and SMS7000 Series routing switcher, produced the game’s half-time performance by the Rolling Stones.
