Live from Houston: Sportvision to test mobile service at Daytona

Sportvision is looking to expand the use of its technology beyond NASCAR telecasts and NASCAR.com at the Daytona 500 tomorrow. Among the offerings? A new system for mobile devices that would let race fans watch a 3D video-game like rendition of the race on their phones.

We track every car on the track and have unique data that we send to the broadcasters and NASCAR.com, says Jeff Jonas, Sportvision EVP, business development. Our next step is to go wireless and let the fans in the stands watch the race and get data from their favorite driver.

The graphical service would put cellphone users right in the race, with Jonas describing the experience as like a realtime version of an EA Sports NASCAR video game. We take the data and push it into a video engine which then builds a graphical overlay for the cellphones, he says.
