NAB PREVIEW: DNF Controls simplifies replays

DNF Controls is introducing the DMAT-EZ Sports Controller at NAB next month, a simplified version of its DMAT controller designed for operators who aren t working with the regular controller on a day-to-day basis.

Dan Fogel, DNF Controls president, says the new controller is designed to help videotape operators make the transition to server-based instant replay systems.

Tape operators and other freelancers may touch a DMAT once a month and sometimes it is difficult to remember the concept of building playlist and clips because they re used to working with cue points, says Fogel.

DMAT-EZ is designed to let those not versed in the regular DMAT controller to quickly and easily save cues and marks and recall them with minimal keystrokes. It really suits the different mindset of a tape operator, says Fogel. The layout of the screen is something they re more familiar with.

The need for DMAT-EZ will only grow in the industry because with the price of servers continually dropping they ll increasingly replace tape decks. As a result, more and more tape operators will need a simple way to work with the server-based systems.

DNF Controls has also added a battery pack to the Analyst, an RS422/RS232 tester that lets users isolate and identify interface problems, whether testing cable runs between floors or between buildings or chasing down adapter problems. The added portability of the battery pack makes it easier to use in field operations.

Also making a return is DNF Controls’ GTP-32 GPI Tally Processor, previously the Tally Interface Box. The new version has an Event Log option for logging all GPI or GPO events. Events are time-stamped using a real-time clock, or LTC timecode. It also now lets users change configuration tables between shows quickly with just the press of a switch.
