NAB PREVIEW: NMT 53-foot HD truck hits Vegas

National Mobile Televison is hard at work building a new 53-foot HD truck, dubbed HD-11, that will primarily handle ESPN work. “It’s really designed as a truck for B- or C-level NFL telecasts,” says Mark Howorth, NMT CEO. “And it will be on display at NAB for anyone who wants to see it.”

Final details, like the audio router, are still being worked out. The truck will feature a number of Grass Valley products, including the Kalypso production switcher, LDK-6000 HD cameras, and a Trinix router. Other gear includes a Calrec Alpha audio console and the typical complement of EVS gear. “There’s very little in the way of tape machines,” says Howorth.

The truck will also have some innovations, including a Sony LCD monitor wall that will reduce the weight and open up space in the vehicle.

Ross Video’s RossGear will be used for replay source distribution, transmission paths, program distribution, signal flow, utility AES distribution, and AES delays. John Kemps, NMT VP of engineering, says RossGear was selected because the feature set isn’t excessive and the price/performance ratio is more than acceptable.

“AES and SD video mounting frames are interchangeable, and cards can be mixed within the frames,” he says of the gear that fits in 1RU and 2RU rack-mounted frames.
