Ready for ‘Masters Madness?’

March Madness will make way for Masters Madness at CBS next week as the
network gears up for the largest HD Masters telecast ever plus live
streaming video from Amen Corner at CBS Sportsline and www.masters.org.

The
live Amen Corner stream will be available all four days beginning on
April 6, giving Masters addicts 22 hours of live video. Hosts for “Amen
Corner Live “will be Masters Tournament veterans Mike Hulbert and Phil
Blackmar.

Twelve cameras will be used to cover Amen Corner which includes holes 11, 12, and 13. The name was coined in a 1958 Sports Illustrated article
by Herbert Warren Wind who was searching for a phrase to describe the
three holes that were critical in that year’s tournament, won by Arnold
Palmer (Palmer hit an eagle on the 13th hole). The name was borrowed
from an old jazz recording called “Shouting at Amen Corner.”

As
for the TV production, CBS will use more than 54 HD cameras including,
for the first time, 10 hand-held cameras. NEP s Super Shooter 24 HDTV
truck will be at the center of the action for the network. The
CBS HD broadcasts begin on Thursday, April 6 from 4-7 p.m.

NEP SS24 actually consists of two 53-foot trucks to create one of the
true state-of-the-art HD OB vehicles in the nation. Gear includes a mix
of Sony BVP-900 hard cameras and BVP-950 HD hand-held cameras, the Sony
MVS8000 production switcher and the Calrec Alpha audio console that
McRae calls the Rolls Royce of consoles for live production.
