NEP orders Harris TVM-950 units for new HD NFL, PGA trucks

NEP Supershooters has purchased 22 Videotek TVM series video and audio signal analyzers to be part of the company s latest HD broadcast trucks. Most of the gear is the Videotek TVM-950 model as well as an all-new VTM series analyzer.

The versatility of the TVM-950s will enable us to monitor all the signal formats HD, SD and analog for cross-format transmission in our newest mobile units,” says George Hoover, senior vice president of engineering, NEP Supershooters. And because the TVM-950 is able to monitor up to four signal sources simultaneously in a single unit, we are able to reduce weight, space and costs, while still meeting all our technical requirements.

With 100 percent digital signal processing technology, the TVM-950 provides accurate, stable display of single or multiple Waveform, Vector, Gamut, Audio, Picture, Timing and Data Analyzer functions in quadrant or full-screen views.
Other capabilities of the TVM-950 include advanced analysis tools, an extensive alarm set with peak level reporting. Dolby metadata, EIA-608, 708 closed caption, Teletext and XDS data are decoded and displayed as well. Remote interfaces include 10/100BaseT Ethernet and USB ports, which support SDI frame-capture and transfer, and also provide mouse control. The new trucks will be on the road mid-2006 to broadcast coverage of the U.S. Open golf tournament and the National Football League s lineup of Sunday and Monday night telecasts. The sale isn t the first time NEP has tapped Harris. In 2005, NEP used the Leitch X75 up/down/cross converter and synchronizer to broadcast the FOX Network s coverage of Super Bowl XXXIX.
NEP is prepared to address many of the potential issues that can arise in a mobile production environment with these very flexible instruments, which include a wealth of functionality, says Tim Thorsteinson, president of the Harris Broadcast Communications Division. And the TVM-950 s ability to handle multiple formats is a real benefit for customers who may be migrating to an HD environment in the future. Many competitive products will not facilitate the change to HD as readily and economically as our Videotek test and measurement instruments.”
