Fairlight suite keeps HD production “Dream” alive

Sports content creators looking for a cost-effective and complete audio and video production and encoding suite for HD content have a new option with the Fairlight HD DREAM Factory.

Introduced at NAB last week the system includes a compact two-bay Constellation-XT large format mixing console and Fairlight s Pyxis HD nonlinear video system. The company says it has the industry s most intuitive interface and a price point less than $100,000.

The HD DREAM Factory fills an important void in the HD production market, explained John Lancken, Fairlight CEO. Whilst the market is screaming for more HD content, the cost of production tools has remained prohibitive. With the HD DREAM factory our customers can address this market opportunity without incurring the significant cost or integration challenges of competitive systems. Bar studio monitors and a skilled engineer, the Fairlight HD DREAM Factory provides a total HD audio solution. It s a total HD package soup to nuts!

The Fairlight HD DREAM Factory includes a Constellation-XT large-scale, multi-format mixing system that is expandable up to 240 channels into 72 busses. With its scalable DSP architecture and integrated disk recorder and editor featuring clip-based automation the Fairlight Constellation XT mixing system has been huge success in the U.S. and most international post and broadcast markets.
The console supports all mix formats from mono to 7.1. It features a unique simultaneous multi-format mix creation system with automatic bus reduction capabilities. Constellation-XT provides progressive surround-sound support, and bus to bus mixing for multi-stem work. With its comprehensive onboard monitoring, advanced fader management system, powerful tactile automation with 6 bands EQ and 2 stage dynamics on every channel the Constellation-XT provides the depth of control that is a requirement in the HD domain. Powered by Fairlight s sonically superior QDC engine, the HD DREAM factory also includes a comprehensive 3rd party plug-in library with over 80 licensed plug-ins.

The basic package provides 56 channels into 24 busses an inbuilt 48 track disk recorder and editor (expandable to 96 tracks) and an HD Tri-Level Sync Separator. Also included are 24 AES/EBU I/Os and 16 analog inputs and outputs eight of which are relay protected. Input and output configurations are expandable up to a maximum of 192 physical I/Os.

In addition to the 2-bay, 12-fader console, the HD DREAM Factory includes the Pyxis HD nonlinear video system featuring Fairlight s unique bi-directional audio-video control. The dual processor Pyxis host PC is also included and is fitted with 1Tb RAID storage and the Decklink HD Pro 4:2:2 TM capture card.
Pyxis HD provides native frame accurate playback of MXF/IMX (D-10 MPEG), AVI, OMF, MPEG2 and QuickTime files, frame rate conversion (NTSC-PAL), and supports PAL and NTSC at any frame rate including 24 and 23.98.

Fairlight s HD DREAM Factory is instantly switchable for both HD and SD production and supports uncompressed HD capture and playback for screening, dubbing & telecine transfer applications.
To provide enhanced workflow capabilities the package also includes MediaLink networking server software with 2 DREAM client licenses, Fairlight s unique Virtual Studio Runner File trafficking system and the AV Transfer file transfer utility.

The feature-set of Fairlight s HD DREAM Factory was developed in close cooperation with customers around the world, Lancken emphasized. They explained to us what they needed to make the leap to HD and we configured the package accordingly. Quite simply it s affordable HD but with no compromises!

HD DREAM Factory is available to end users at the special price of $99,950 USD for all orders received and shipped prior June 30th 2006 through Fairlight s Business Partner network (see www.fairlightau.com for to find a dealer in your territory).
