Azcar snags $3M Fox Sports deal

Fox Network Engineering and Operations has selected AZCAR Technologies for the systems design and integration of the new Fox Network Center in Houston, TX that will serve as the operations and transmission center for the Fox Sports Networks.

The entirely new facility will replace the existing Houston Technical Operations Center and will provide improved financial and operating efficiencies through the aggressive use of wideband digital and server technologies. The FNC-H facility originates programming for all 17 regional Fox networks throughout the USA and is targeted to provide backup capabilities for the Fox national broadcast network.

As a key component of this project award, AZCAR has been asked to help Fox NE&O develop new Fox CAD Drawing Standards intended for use throughout Fox Television Engineering.
“The new drawing standards and tools will enable the standardization of drawing styles amongst Fox entities allowing the easy exchange and maintenance of system documentation and will introduce efficiencies into the design and documentation processes”, said Bill Crowther, AZCAR’s COO. “They will also allow a closer collaboration between AZCAR and Fox engineers on the FNC-H and future projects, thereby reducing overall project costs.”

Scheduled for completion in late 2007, the new Fox Network Center will include satellite and terrestrial program content acquisition, 28 Master Control Rooms with provision for significant future expansion plus 5 multicast master control rooms, transmission operations control room, network management control room, graphics generation as well as satellite and terrestrial distribution compression and multiplexing systems. Although the majority of Fox programming is currently Standard Definition, the new facility will be designed and built to seamlessly migrate to High Definition as consumer demand and the availability of HD programming increases in the future.

AZCAR will provide Fox with preliminary systems design consulting, detailed engineering design, installation, testing and commissioning services. AZCAR’s contract also includes overall project management, logistics and transition planning and equipment management services throughout the fast-tracked, FNC-H project.

“AZCAR is uniquely experienced in handling large scale, time sensitive projects and we are pleased to have been chosen by Fox for this exciting project” said Stephen Pumple, AZCAR’s President and CEO. “We are also especially happy to welcome Fox as a new customer to AZCAR and we look forward to working collaboratively with them in helping Fox capitalize on the expanding universe of television entertainment.”
