blinkx to build online football goal HOF for London Times

London’s Times Online, the website of The Times and The Sunday Times, has signed a deal with blinkx whereby the company’s search technology will be used to create an online video Hall of Fame for the greatest football goals of all time.

A key part of the Times Online coverage for the 2006 FIFA Football World Cup in Germany, the Hall of Fame uses blinkx search technology to offer readers video clips of the greatest goals as chosen by Times football writer Tony Cascarino.

“We’re very pleased to do this project with blinkx because its video search capacity allows us to bring this old footage alive and also gives readers an opportunity to search for other images on the web using blinkx,” said Peter Bale, editorial director of Times Online. “Video on the web is becoming more and more popular and blinkx offers a great device to find hidden content.”

blinkx, which is optimized for video and rich media, has the ability to index and understand rich media content on the web. The blinkx video search engine uses advanced voice recognition and speech-to-text technology to automatically index and transcribe video and audio on the Web, making it searchable right down to the individual spoken words.

Times Online and blinkx already have partnership to offer a customized version of the blinkx search engine, Times Smart Search.
