Cyberlink gives World Cup fans PC power

By Andrew Lippe

The road to the World Cup championship game will be a month long odyssey filled with memorable goals, incredible saves, and magical moments for fans to cherish.

Many football fans especially in the United States will miss out on the matches because most of the games are scheduled in the morning and afternoon hours. However a new technology from Cyberlink is designed to quickly let fans catch up on the action.

The Cyberlink PowerCinema Football Edition is a new PC software package that, coupled with a TV tuner card, lets fans not only schedule the recording of matches but also automatically assembles highlight packages.

“We analyze both the video and audio, such as the score change on the screen, voice over the anchor, voice from the audience, to the position of the player, etc,” says Renee Chen Cyberlink’s International PR marketing director of the system s MagicSports software package (other components include MagicDirector, MakeDVD, and PowerCinema).
The Football Edition is the first of a line of sports-centric products, with basketball, baseball, and even sumo editions due later this year.

The backbone of the system is PowerCinema and Eagle Vision technology. PowerCinema works with electronic program guides to schedule recordings while Eagle Vision gives the user a viewing experience that Cyberlink says features superb colors and magnificent detail.

Another Cyberlink technology is Pano Vision, minimizing distortion by stretching the video image on the edges of the screen and leaving the center of the television screen unaffected. All on-screen action such as goals, replays and game saving stops, as a result, maintains its original appearance. Fans will also be able to edit highlights via MagicDirector. Coupled with MakeDVD, a DVD burning software, fans can burn their own World Cup highlights.
