U.S. Open Coverage Expands to Satellite Radio

by Carolyn Braff

Golf fans nationwide can now stay tuned into the action at the U.S. Open using satellite radio, as this year, for the first time, live coverage of the championship will be provided over XM Satellite radio. The Open will be covered on XM channel 146 beginning this Thursday, June 15.

This is the first time that the U.S. Open has been broadcast on satellite radio, and XM is very excited to be bringing the championship to millions of people through the country, said Kevin Straley, vice president of talk programming, XM Satellite Radio.

Each day of the tournament, XM will provide 1,000 portable XM radios free of charge for spectators to use on the course, so that they can listen to the day s broadcast and keep abreast of happenings throughout the course. XM radios will also be available for purchase.

XM radio coverage will include complete play-by-play of the Open, pre- and post-round commentary, call-in shows, player interviews, and on-site press conferences. Pre-event coverage, live from the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, NY, has already begun.
