GlobeCast snags China Netcom for Beijing Games

Broadcast content management and delivery company GlobeCast and leading telecommunications company China Netcom (CNC) signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will allow GlobeCast to provide content distribution services from China, notably during the 2008 Games in Beijing.
The signing ceremony itself acted as a showcase of the two companies’ technical abilities, with a virtual signing taking place live in High Definition. A two way fibre linking GlobeCast’s headquarters in Paris with CNC’s headquarters in Beijing connected Mr. Zhao Jidong, Senior VP of China Netcom and Mr. Christian Pinon, CEO of GlobeCast. The ceremony was also attended by Ren Consolo, Counselor, French Embassy among other dignitaries.

Official partner of the 2008 Olympic Games, China Netcom operates a large fibre and teleport network within China, and is connected to many of the world’s leading broadcasters.
GlobeCast, a division of France Telecom, is a broadcast content management and delivery company with offices on five continents and a worldwide satellite and fibre network. Its Sports and Special Events Division is present at major events worldwide including the World Cup, Olympics and Asian Games.

Joining their strengths, GlobeCast and China Netcom will leverage their abilities to provide true end-to-end services between China and the rest of the world.
After the Olympics, the two companies hope to continue meeting broadcasters’ needs in this area with a continued partnership using a joint network.
