Derse promoted to Fox Sports Int. VP, Interactive Media

Fox Sports International (FSI) promoted Edward Derse to Vice President of Interactive Media. Derse will continue to report to David Sternberg, Executive Vice President and General Manager of FSI.

In his new role, Derse assumes responsibility for the general management and operations of Fox Sports International’s interactive and emerging media platforms, including Internet, broadband, IPTV and wireless. FSI currently operates multiple Internet sites for its three primary networks, Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Sports en Espa ol and Fox Sports Latin America; the latter two are currently undergoing a major transformation to create the hemisphere’s most information- and video-rich online sports destinations in Spanish. Foxsoccer.com on MSN is the top-rated soccer Web site in the U.S., and recently experienced record traffic during the FIFA World Cup 2006, delivering more unique users and page views than any other non-FIFA English-language Web site in the United States. Derse will also oversee interactive platform integration across FSI’s television network production, marketing and ad sales operations.

“Ed is a tremendous asset to the FSI family of networks,” said Sternberg. “We’re excited to see him continue to grow and take on greater responsibilities for our digital platforms. His leadership, expertise and passion for sports will undoubtedly set the tone for our continued success in the Internet, wireless and broadband segments.”

Most recently, Derse served as Director of Interactive Media for Fox Sports International, as well as director of emerging networks for Fox Sports Interactive Media. He joined News Corporation in January 2000 as Senior Producer of World Sports for FOXSports.com from the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles, where he was director of research. A graduate of the University of Chicago, from which he holds BA and MA degrees, Derse also appears as a sports business commentator on American Public Radio’s Marketplace, broadcast on public radio stations nationwide.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to lead development of FSI’s interactive platforms in support of the networks’ overall businesses,” said Derse. “In an increasingly convergent world, interactive media is an essential part of programming content; enhancing ad sales; and building our brands by offering new ways for viewers along with Internet and mobile users to engage our channels. We’re committed to reaching our community of fans and viewers via whatever ‘plumbing’ it takes, and to provide them with the content, choice, and interaction they want. Besides, it’s a lot of fun.”
