SVG releases mobile production research

The Sports Video Group (SVG) has released the first annual Mobile Truck Marketplace 2007, a analysis of technology being used in leading mobile production trucks in North America. Based on data collected as part of SVG’s Mobile Production Yearbook, the study reflects an increasingly sophisticated number of HD and HD-ready mobile units that are responsible for an increasing amount of HD sports programs.

According to the report, there are 52 HD and/or HD-ready trucks on the road today, over one-third of the total, high-end mobile fleet. NEP owns 21% of the current HD fleet, with Moblle TV Group owning the second largest marketshare with 17%.

The top three truck companies (SD and HD), reflected by total mobile production truck footage are (in descending order) NEP, NMT and Mobile TV Group.

In terms of leading broadcast brands for key mobile production technologies in all vehicles, the report found the following category leaders: Cameras (Sony); Lenses (Canon); Audio Console (Calrec); Microphones (Sennheiser); Graphics (Chyron); Storage (EVS); Switcher (GVG).

“With a larger number of HD mobile production trucks rolling across North America this year, producing a record number of live sports and entertainment events, the Sports Video Group decided to take a representative snapshot of the state of mobile production technology and the industry,” says SVG Executive Director Martin Porter. “This first year’s report will set a benchmark for forthcoming annual studies, which will chart the technical sophistication of this new generation of broadcast production vehicles.”
