TSN & Sportsnet to air Canada/Russia U-20 series
Story Highlights
TSN and
Rogers Sportsnet will team up to provide live coverage of the Canada/Russia
under-20 hockey series which begins this Monday August 27th.
Together the two stations, along with TSN sister station RDS, have secured
exclusive Canadian broadcast and digital media rights, in both English and
French, to the eight-game hockey tournament.
The
English-language coverage will be divided between TSN and Sportsnet, with TSN
televising Games 1, 4, 5 and 6 and Sportsnet airing Games 2, 3, 7 and 8.
RDS will broadcast all eight games in French.
As part of the deal, TSN and Sportsnet will create one shared broadcast team
and production crew. Sportsnet’s Peter Loubardias will provide the play-by-play
alongside TSN game analyst Pierre McGuire and TSN’s Ryan Rishaug as rinkside
reporter. The networks’ pre-games and intermissions will be from a shared broadcast
studio. For RDS, St phane Leroux will handle the play-by-play with game
analyst Norman Flynn, while Michel Lacroix will host the studio show alongside
analyst Gaston Therrien.
Dubbed by some as the Junior Summit Series, Canada and Russia will assemble
their best hockey players under age 20 to meet in an eight-game series this
August and September in commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the original
Canada/Russia series. The first four games will take place in
Russia with the final four games in
Canada.
The first games of the series will be Aug. 27 and 29 in
Ufa,
which is about 1,300 kilometres east of
Moscow.
Games 3 and 4 will be Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 in
Omsk, which is even farther east of Ufna.
Games five through eight will be played in
Canada
in
Winnipeg,
Saskatoon,
Red Deer and
Vancouver respectively.
