Masstech Supports Avid DNxHD Codec

Masstech
Group has released support for the Avid DNxHD video codec. Avid DNxHD, which
offers the ability to work in HD formats, at SD bandwidth rates, is now
supported by Masstech’s complete family of workflow management systems.

“Our
support for Avid DNxHD is another clear message to the industry that Masstech
is committed to interoperability and support for all popular formats and
platforms. In this regard we believe Avid DNxHD is an important step
forward in HD workflow,” commented Sudy Shen, president and CEO, Masstech
Group, Inc. “Avid has taken a clear leadership position in addressing both
image quality and bandwidth considerations and Masstech is committed to ongoing
support of the Avid DNxHD format.”

“We are
pleased to see Masstech Group embrace the Avid DNxHD codec across their product
lines, as it demonstrates the broad appeal of our technology as an HD
solution,” said Johnathon Howard, director of on-air product management,
Avid. “Avid DNxHD enables post production and broadcast teams to handle
HD material seamlessly across the entire media environment, without the need to
change workflows or overhaul infrastructure. Today’s production environments
are a mix of systems from Avid and other vendors, so it is critical that Avid
DNxHD continues to win the support of other manufacturers.”

Masstech
Group provides the backbone content lifecycle management and productivity
enhancements for today’s most advanced digital television broadcast and
production environments. Masstech Group’s powerful SAvI SM* (Smart Avid
Interface) supports both Avid Interplay™ and Avid Unity™ environments, to
provide a powerful platform for facility content management and
storage. Masstech Group’s industry leading MassStore media
lifecycle management solution and transcoding platform combined with Avid’s
production environments put content storage, archiving and repurposing at the
editors’ fingertips.

Based on
the Material Exchange Format (MXF) standard, a SMPTE format for open media
exchange between creative systems, the Avid DNxHD codec provides content
creators with 8- and 10-bit, full-raster, HD image quality at SD
bandwidths. Engineered to withstand the rigors of the post production
process, Avid DNxHD is a mastering quality codec ideal for compositing and
multi-generational use. With the introduction of Avid DNxHD 36, Avid
makes HD a reality for offline editorial, delivering HD quality at a data rate
only slightly higher than DV25 and allowing content creation teams to maintain
HD across the entire post pipeline.
