Quantel previews 3D post system at IBC

The IBC Daily is reporting that Quantel is previewing a 3D
stereoscopic post production system enabling interactive review and
working with simultaneous, full quality stereo streams on both iQ and
Pablo at IBC. In addition to this upgraded capability, plans call for the
development of a standalone technology currently nicknamed Sid, writes
Carolyn Giardina.

Working closely with Quantel on this
development was Vince Pace, who co-developed the Fusion 3D camera
system with director James Cameron. His 3D company PACE is responsible
for such productions as the 2007 National Basketball Association’s 2007
‘All Star Game’ in 3D.

In the US, digital 3D is gaining
momentum. Estimates suggest that there will be roughly 1000 3D-ready
digital cinema screens installed in time to accommodate 3D for the 16
November opening of Robert Zemeckis’ anticipated ‘Beowulf’, a
performance capture-based feature that combines CG and live action.

Hollywood
has also demonstrated a growing interest in creating 3D content.
Notably, Dreamworks Animation intends to release all animated features
in 3D, beginning in 2009.
