Westar Satellite Services Opens Broadcast On-Ramp Facility in Chicago

Westar
Satellite Services has opened a new “on-ramp” facility in
Chicago
to serve broadcasters and large companies throughout the
Midwest.
Westar, which has already been selected by the leading syndicated TV shows in
the
United States
originating from
Chicago, provides rapid
distribution of video, data and voice communications to a satellite uplink or

U.S. business
and media industry centers. Westar Satellite Services is a privately held
North Texas based satellite communications company.

“Westar
has steadily expanded across the U.S. with facilities in key media cities such
as Chicago to give broadcasting companies and large enterprises the ability to
instantly distribute and receive data, voice and video transmissions at highly
competitive rates,” noted Westar Satellite Services CEO Rob Tannor. “We’re
connected to all major college and professional sports venues, as well as
syndication groups and TV stations through our reliable telecommunications
infrastructure. This means that
Chicago
customers can connect to the entire world through Westar’s terrestrial network
and world class satellite earth station in

Texas.”

The
state-of-the-art

Chicago
point of presence offers continual transmission of broadcast quality video,
audio and enterprise communications. Westar also has a facility in
Manhattan and its
Texas
location is the longest operating commercial satellite facility in the

U.S.

Westar
provides uplink and downlink video services via satellite and terrestrial
transmission, including multimedia and streaming media content distribution.
Westar has agreements in place with top communications and telecom companies to
give customers more ways to distribute information, including news broadcasts,
training videos and advertisements. Customers can use Westar’s advanced
fiber-optic network and antenna assets to distribute content from more than 49
satellites, as well as individual locations throughout Westar’s national
footprint.

Westar has
been a pipeline for news and information for some of the most important news
and events of the past decade. Broadcasters used the company’s fiber optic
system to distribute the 2007 NBA championship game in
San
Antonio, cover the condition of Hurricane Katrina evacuees in
Houston and report on President Bush’s meetings in

Crawford,
Texas.
Companies have also tapped Westar’s system to communicate with remote locations
and transmit data to hundreds of locations simultaneously.

“Westar
Satellite Services has the expertise and the ability to help broadcasters and
organizations connect anywhere in the world,” noted Bill Cordo, Westar vice
president of Sales. “From showing three point plays at the

United
Center
to communicating with offshore platforms in the gulf, one call to Westar can
open up the entire globe.”

The new
satellite facility opened during the summer of 2007, and is located on

Dearborn Avenue in

Chicago.
