O21 delivers 22 Rugby World Cup matches to viewers

It’s been relegated to the back pages (if anywhere in the sports sections in the U.S. but for the past month and a half the Rubgy World Cup has caught the hearts and minds of rugby fans around the globe. England has secured its place in the Rugby World Cup Final this coming weekend where they will play South Africa. Delivering all the World Cup action to UK screens is ITV with technical facilities provided by O21 Television. By the time of the final the outside broadcast provider will have covered a total of twenty two matches over six weeks across France, Wales and Scotland. Executive Producer David Moss said “It’s been a fantastic Rugby World Cup so far, with millions across the UK watching our coverage of games across France and the UK.”

“O21 have given us all the necessary technical support and expertise right through the tournament, whether it is at our outside broadcasts from the stadiums or through our use of the latest technological developments in the studio such as the highly successful Piero analysis tool.”

O21 Television’s Managing Director Rob Hollier said, “It is an incredible volume of matches to cover in such a short period of time, especially when you are traveling from city to city and country to country. We have had a total of six trucks and three crews working at any one time. On one occasion we had crews traveling through the night from an evening match to a lunchtime kick off the following day.”

Hollier explained that the logistics of the job are hugely complicated including the movement of people and trucks and involved precision organisation and extensive broadcast equipment inventories.

O21 will deliver the concluding ITV Presentation this weekend.
