WPTV chooses Chyron in historic HD Launch

Chyron
Corporation has announced that WPTV, the NBC-affiliated television station for the Gold and
Treasure
Coasts of

Florida,
has installed two HD/SD-switchable HyperX2 on-air graphics systems as part of
its historic High Definition (HD) service. WPTV is known on-air as NewsChannel 5 HD.

WPTV made
headlines on August 4, 2007, when it launched the first HD newscast in the
history of
South Florida television. The
network selected Chyron’s flagship HyperX2 system with the award-winning Lyric PRO
advanced creation and playout software to provide continuous graphics rendering
as key elements of its two main control rooms. The first HyperX2, installed in
Control Room A, provides WPTV with two independent HD/SD channels; the second
system, in Control Room B, delivers a single channel.

The
state-of-the-art Chyron systems allow WPTV to deliver sophisticated lower
third, over-the-shoulder and full-screen HD graphics for local news and
weather. The HyperX2 graphics engine can simultaneously manipulate multiple of
3D layers of text, logos, textures and movie objects, all in real time.

“This
has been an exciting time for WPTV. We managed to keep the HD launch completely
under wraps, testing the workflow over a number of months. The Chyron systems
were chosen because they allow our artists and editors to push the boundaries
in graphics creation and playout. I am confident that many will love our new
presentation and become even more frequent NewsChannel 5 viewers,”
commented Brian Lawlor, Vice President & General Manager, WPTV.

“We are very excited to be part of this
historic achievement at WPTV. The HyperX2’s open platform, advanced graphics
rendering and integrated systems approach greatly benefits the broadcaster by providing
a fresh new look, which in turn can drive an increase in their revenue
stream,” added Kevin Prince, Chyron’s Chief Operating Officer.
