Daktronics Aids Purdues Ross-Ade Stadium

Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana,
recently upgraded their football scoreboard with a light emitting diode (LED)
video display from Daktronics. The $1.7 million
board is part of a renovation of Purdue’s Ross-Ade Stadium. It replaced
the stadium’s ten-year-old display, which was comprised of three boards
used separately for stats, advertisements and replays. With the Daktronics
PS-23 LED technology, Boilermaker fans are able to view all three things as
well as live video, colorful animations and vivid graphics on one giant
display.

“The entire
screen can be a live video shot if we want it to be, or we can segment it
down,” says Steve Simmerman, Assistant Athletics Director for Facilities
at Purdue. “There are lots of different configurations that the screen
can be divided into within that one large video screen.”

Purdue’s video
display, placed behind the south end zone, measures approximately 31 feet high
by 68 feet wide with full-color pixels on 23 millimeter spacing. The display
uses the latest in red, green and blue (RGB) LED technology to present images
and information with high visibility and incredible brightness. Daktronics
technology offers a long lifetime with minimal maintenance and low power consumption,
providing value and excitement for years to come.

“We are trying
to stay abreast of the technology and offer our fans that come to Ross-Ade
Stadium the highest quality experience we can offer them,” says
Simmerman. “And this is a part of that experience.”
