Avitech, Grass, NVision, EVS and Sony play key role in new Belgian Outside Broadcast van

Outside Broadcast, one of Belgium’s leading OB van production facilities, has chosen Avitech Multi-viewers for the monitoring of multiple HD and SD video and audio signals. Outside Broadcast’s new HD Unit 14 OB van will be used at sporting events, the summer Olympics, concerts, and much more. High-end SD/HD equipment includes Avitech’s multi-viewers driving Neovo X-W19 displays, Sony cameras, a Thomson Kayak HD 450 production switcher, an Nvision 3Gb matrix router, EVS slo-mo servers, and a Lawo MC266 audio console.

Avitech’s MCC-8004 series of multi-viewers are located at the heart of Outside Broadcast’s OB production van and are used at Slo-Mo and Producer desks, in Camera Control and Audio areas. They are configured for displaying four or eight sources per monitor.

Each Avitech MCC-8004U Multiviewer module handles up to four auto-detect HD-SDI, SD-SDI/composite video inputs, and provides output resolution up to 1920 x 1200. Cascading modules allow the display of the desired number of sources per monitor. F

Other features include: accepting HD-SDI, SD-SDI and analog video sources with auto-detect capability, embedded audio monitoring, parallel and serial tally, exceptionally low power consumption, as well as on-screen alarm indicators for video and audio status, all while maintaining the correct aspect ratio whether it be 4:3 or 16:9.

“After reviewing the available competitive Multiviewer technology on the market we decided to move forward with Avitech’s solution,” comments Andr Verbesselt, Head of Engineering for Outside Broadcast. “The Avitech modules provide a modular, “no single point of failure” design, which is incredibly important during the production of live events.

Verbesselt says the ability to automatically detect and accept any type of input signal is fantastic. “The wide choice of supported output resolutions makes it simple to choose a display and the price-to-performance ratio of the Avitech equipment convinced us, as well as the ease of integration into our existing infrastructure,” he says.
