FANZ-TV targets minor league sports audience

By Andrew Lippe

Minor League Sports does not have a big presence on broadcast television but the FANZ TELEVISION NETWORK (FANZ-TV) is looking to give many minor league franchises TV exposure. FANZ-TV President/CEO Rod Myers says that when the network goes live at midnight on January 28 the network will be seen in 3.4 million homes. “We are in talks with the Dish network and DirecTV,” says Myers.

The new network will broadcast satellite feeds of minor league games and Div II & Div III college games. They also offer programming for MMA, Wrestling, Boxing, Auto Racing, Outdoor Hunting, Fishing, Pool, as well as Extreme Sports and Women’s Minor League action. “We wanted to focus on talent that is often unseen and unheard,” says Myers.

FANZ-TV has agreements with leagues including the Premier Basketball League, the International Basketball League (IBL), and the Independent Women’s Football Leagues (IWFL). It is currently in talks with a number of other leagues.

”A main concern of leagues is production costs,” says Myers. “In a lot of have leagues, TV production is a gray area.” The games will currently air in SD and may go HD in the future.

FANZ-TV will offer special league packages to local broadcasting stations to carry games in their area. FANZ-TV operates a digital video server-based master control operation, with Fusion Communications Production Services, out of Davenport, Iowa. The network will feature a full-time sports ticker across the screen with live in-game scoring. Fans TV will also provide sports content on their website www.fanztvnetwork.com.

“We are also developing a minor league sports recap show,” add Myers. “It will put the leagues in the best light.”
