KOHD-TV chooses Chyron as Hub of HD news Graphics Workflow

KOHD-TV, an all-digital ABC affiliate has installed a Chyron
HyperX2 graphics system for its new High Definition news studio based in
Bend, Oregon,
US.

With the exception of weather, all KOHD News’ graphics run
through the HyperX2 providing the hub of the station’s HD Graphics
pipeline. High Definition news graphics are generated natively on the
system inside standard graphics programs or automated via KOHD’s Air Control
interface for playout. The system is also operated live for all KOHD
Newscasts, simultaneously playing out persistent bugs, time/temp stamps,
crawls, lower-thirds, OTS graphics, maps and full screens.

Bryan Johnson, KOHD-TV’s, Creative Services Director commented, “The
challenge we had to overcome was to find a single High Definition on-air
workstation capable of doing everything that a traditional still store, crawl
generator, clip player, graphics system and character generator could do.
The HyperX2’s ability to stack multiple graphics on the output channels with
persistent objects has enables us to take what might have been
traditionally 6+ channels of various on-air systems and consolidate them down
to two.”

He added. “This functionality has allowed KOHD News to execute a very
sophisticated graphics package that was only once capable in big markets with a
room full of expensive equipment. The HyperX2 also interfaces well with
our Avid iNews newsroom system.”

Kevin Prince, Chyron’s Chief Operating Officer concluded “We are delighted
to announce this sale to KOHD-TV. The HyperX2 is the crown jewel in
Chyron’s graphics workflow and is being used by broadcasters across the world
to provide sophisticated HD graphics for fast paced, live broadcasts.”
