CBS Snaps up CNET.com to broaden Net play

The Wall Street Journal and others are diving into analysis of the CNET Networks acquisition by CBS Corp. as the broadcaster ponied up $1.8 billion cash to help add gas to CBS owned Internet properties. San Francisco-based CNet
— target of a months-long pressure campaign by activist investors —
operates Web sites including news.com, ZDNet, GameSpot.com, TV.com and
mp3.com. For the first quarter of 2008, CNet reported a net loss of
$6.1 million. But for full-year 2007, the company reported a
profit of $177 million.
