Middle Tennessee State University revamps audio with Technomad

By Andrew Lippe
Middle Tennessee State University
in Murfreesboro, TN, improved its newest sports venue by installing
Technomad Berlin weatherproof loudspeakers. Built
a year ago, the stadium plays host to soccer, track and field events and lacked the
audio quality found in the other venues that make up MTSU’s Murphy
Center Complex. Two loudspeakers were installed in the 2,500-seat stadium to give it an audio boost. “We had been using a portable
audio system, and there were no plans to install an audio system in
the new venue,” says Josh Hoevelmann, Electronic Equipment Engineer
for MTSU Murphy Center Complex.
In the original design the
Technomad loudspeakers were part of the scoreboard. “There is residential
housing across the street from the venue and we had neighborhood
complaints about our audio,” says Hoevelmann. He had the speakers
moved and installed on the opposite corners of the press box. “I
am not always there to run the audio and having the speakers installed
by the press box means the PA announcer can run it,” adds Hoevelmann.
Technomad was also the only company that uses fuses to prevent power
overloads and the Technomad Berlin loudspeakers can now cover the entire
stadium without disturbing neighbors.
The speakers are weatherproof
and are chained securely to the press box fence. “I never have to
worry about set up and tear down,” says Hoevelmann.
The soccer track and field
venue is the only venue to see new technological advancements. Recently
MTSU upgraded its football and basketball venues by adding Daktronics
scoreboards. And a new baseball venue is in the works as the school makes strides to improve its venues.
