Setanta Sports has signed a three-year deal to broadcast live 33 UEFA
Cup matches a season, starting from next year. The games further
broaden the Irish satellite broadcaster’s football offering, which
currently includes the English and Scottish Premier Leagues, the away
qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup and the FA Cup.

The contract
is shared with UK terrestrial commercial broadcasters Five and ITV and
gives Setanta the rights to 17 games during the UEFA Cup group stages,
six from the rounds involving 32 and 16 teams, two quarter finals and
one semi-final. There will also be a weekly highlights round-up as well
as the live transmissions on a Thursday evening.

Mark O’Meara,
chief executive of Setanta UK, commented, “Winning the rights to
broadcast this prestigious European tournament is great news for our
subscribers and great news for football fans. The UEFA Cup has thrown
up some great British adventures in recent years and I’m delighted that
fans will be able to tune in on Thursday nights to follow their teams’
European journeys from next year.”
