Multidyne intros Multimode Fiber Optic Link

MultiDyne Video & Fiber Optic Systems has introduced the DVI-5000 Multimode Fiber Optic Link, a cost-effective transport solution for short runs of high-quality uncompressed DVI signals over one or two fibers.

The DVI-5000 features stereo audio and data, and support for DVI video signals up to WQXGA resolution of 2560 x 1600 over one or two fibers. The DVI Single Link version requires only one fiber for resolutions up to WUXGA 1920 x 1200, while the DVI Dual Link version requires two fibers for resolutions up to WQXGA 2560 x 1600. The system also supports stereo audio and bi-directional data for monitor control and uses no compression, with no user adjustments or calibration.

Multidyne says the DVI-5000 transports a pixel-for-pixel image that is 100% transparent with no frame dropping, and enables 100% 24-bits for all scan rates with no contouring or bit reduction at a high scan rate. The system also provides a total throughput of up to 10 Gb/s and requires non-proprietary multimode fiber optic cable with a transport distance of up to 1 KM or 3,300 feet. The DVI-5000 transmitter unit supports a loop-through input and the receiver provides two DVI outputs. The system supports EDID from any monitor which is selectable between the loop-through monitor, internal generation on the transmit side or from the monitor on the receiver side.

The company also announced that FOX News in New York has purchased 50 MultiDyne HD-1500 HD-SDI Fiber Links. “Our HD fiber transport products provide the future-proof, cost-effective design needed to meet the changing broadcast requirements of FOX News,” says Bob McAlpine, vice president of global sales and business development. “The HD-1500 provides looping, equalized, and reclocked inputs, dual outputs and MultiDyne’s unprecedented, standard 7-year warranty.”

The HD-1500 Series of 5 to 1.485 Gb/s Serial Digital Video Fiber Optic Transport Link is designed to ease the engineering and financial difficulties associated with the migration to Digital and High Definition Television. The HD-1500 line provides an economical solution for the fiber optic transport and distribution of virtually any digital signal from 5 Mb/s to 1.5Gb/s. Supported standards include SMPTE 292M 1.485 Gb/s, SMPTE 259M, with operation from 143Mb/s – 360Mb/s, SMPTE 310M 19.4Mb/s, M2S or DVB-ASI 270Mb/s, SMPTE 344M 540Mb/s and SMPTE 305M SDTi rates. The systems will transparently pass any embedded audio and data; audio and data must be embedded and extracted separately.
