NBA Gives USC Students Inside Look at NBA Finals

The National Basketball Association gave graduate electrical engineering students from the University of Southern California a chance to go behind the scenes at an NBA Finals TV production last week prior to game five in Los Angeles.

Students were given on overview of the various technologies and tour of the Staples Center and the production compound. Mike Rokosa, VP of Engineering for NBA Entertainment, VP of Engineering, and Peter Skrodelis, VP of Broadcasting for NBA Entertainment, led the tour.

“I consider myself lucky to have been able to see the spectacular world of behind the scene action,” said Rohan Agarwal. “I was really mesmerized by how everything is put together and how everything functions.”

USC student Xiaojia Lui appreciated the opportunity to know more about HD broadcast equipment and cutting edge technologies. “The only regret is that the Los Angeles Lakers won’t be back again this season,” said Lui.

The event, organized by SVG and hosted by the NBA, was designed to expose next-generation engineering talent to a career in sports broadcasting. “The graduate students have responded really well to the tour and a few of them have already inquired about how they can tie their love of sports and engineering together as a career,” added Ken Kerschbaumer SVG editorial director.
