TSN targets Wimbledon

TSN has
125 hours of live Wimbledon coverage, as the
best tennis players in the world head to the grass courts of the All England
Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, beginning Monday, June 23 at 7 a.m. ET with
early round matches.
TSN’s
coverage of Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam
event of the year, includes both the men’s and women’s early round matches,
round of 16, quarter-finals and semifinals (see broadcast schedule
below). TSN.ca will feature daily highlights and interviews from the
tournament.
Entering the
tournament with a record 59-match winning streak on grass, Roger Federer will
attempt to become the first man in the open era to win six consecutive Wimbledon singles titles. Trying to dethrone
Federer will be 2008 French Open champion and rival Rafael Nadal, who is coming
off of his first-ever grass court tournament victory at the Artois Championship
last week.
On the
women’s side, defending champion Venus Williams returns looking to add a fifth Wimbledon singles title to her collection. Ranked
23rd in last year’s event, Williams broke her own record for being the lowest
seeded player to win the women’s singles title. She will face stiff
competition from the likes of current world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic and former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova.
TSN’s Wimbledon
coverage complements the network’s extensive 2008 tennis broadcast schedule
featuring 600 hours of coverage from the biggest events of the year including
all four Grand Slam tournaments, as well as the men’s Rogers Cup in Toronto from July 21 to 26 and the women’s Rogers Cup in Montreal from July 28 to
Aug. 1.
