Empowercom readies Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Real Stadium for HD needs

By Andrew Lippe
Empowercom, a small Denver-based company that manufactures cable
assemblies for the telecommunications industry and runs wires through buildings
is now working on a Real Stadium in Salt Lake City,
UT and the company says its work will surpass
an earlier effort to build Dick’s Sporting
Goods Park
in Commerce City, CO.
“The need for more
bandwidth will always drive the manufactures of the cable industry and fiber
industry to continue to research new products because the demand for bandwidth
is going to be there,” says Doug Walford, Empowercom operations manager.
Gepcom and CommScope
provided most of the cabling for Dick’s Sporting Goods
Park. The project
included installation of cabling and wiring for the truck bay, MDF, data communications,
voice data, and all the camera positions and TV monitors.
Triax was installed for
the 27 camera positions throughout the stadium to meet the needs for both
serial digital and HDTV transmission. Six- and 12-pair audio cables were used
for all audio feeds, while Gepco HD coax was utilized for SDI and HDTV
interconnections.
Gepco cables used in the
project include VT61811PEF and VT61811TK triax cables, VSD2001PEF coax cables,
GA61806PEF six-pair audio, GA61812PEF 12-pair audio, speaker cable, riser and
plenum triax, and single-pair audio cable.
