Sports Broadcasting HOF, Sports Museum of America Join Forces

The Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame is the newest sports-related Hall of Fame to join forces with the Sports Museum of America (SmA). The Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame honors sports TV industry leaders both in front of and behind the camera, and together the two organizations will increase consumer awareness of the sports-broadcast industry.

The Sports Museum of America has added the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame to its list of Founding Sports Partners and will promote the Hall’s video tributes and biographies to a world audience via the SmA Website and other activities. The Sports Museum of America is also a Founding Sponsor of the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame, which will be held on Dec. 16 at the New York Hilton Hotel and will be hosted by Jim Nantz, CBS Sports lead play-by-play announcer.

“We look forward to introducing the visitors of this prestigious New York museum destination to the contributions that our industry has made to their overall sports experience,” says Ken Aagaard, Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame chairman and CBS Sports EVP, operations and production services. “This is a first step in our mission to elevate consumer recognition for the giants who have brought forth so many great moments in sports television to a world audience.”

The Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame was formed in 2007 to honor sports TV industry innovators and leaders, and its inductees include sports broadcast legends like Howard Cosell, Jim McKay, Roone Arledge, Pete Rozelle, and Ed Sabol. The 2008 inductee class is composed of Marvin Bader, Chet Forte, Curt Gowdy, Ted Nathanson, Don Ohlmeyer, Val Pinchbeck, Vin Scully, Bob Seiderman, and Charlie Steinberg.

“Technology is central to the Sports Museum of America experience, and we are especially proud to associate ourselves with a Sports Hall of Fame that celebrates the vital technical contributions to the sports enshrined in our museum,” says John Urban, SmA president and general manager. “We look forward to further input and guidance from the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame board in the years to come as we expand our rich media offerings and further incorporate advanced technologies into our museum’s galleries.”

The Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame is produced by the Sports Video Group (SVG), an industry association dedicated to advancing the creation, production, and distribution of sports content. More than 80 industry leaders from national broadcast networks, cable sports networks, leagues, teams, and related organizations participate in the selection process each summer. Honorees were elected in seven categories: management, production, technical operations, engineering, leagues and teams, manufacturers and vendors, and on-air talent.
