JVC Releases New 3D Image Processor and Coverter

JVC Professional Products has unveiled the IF-2D3D1 Stereoscopic Image Processor, which serves as a 2D-to-3D converter or as a 3D left/right mixer. The processor allows video content producers to easily convert 2D material to 3D in real time or shoot and monitor original content in 3D.

The IF-2D3D1 provides line-by-line, side-by-side, top-bottom, or checkerboard 3D mixed formats when converting 2D to 3D. It can also output discrete left and right signals via HD-SDI or HDMI for dual projection or editing. Output can be adjusted for parallax (image displacement) and 3D intensity – both with natural, anaglyph, and sequential viewing modes.

In terms of shooting original content, the IF-2D3D1 allows producers to easily monitor both cameras used during 3D shooting in real time and on location.  The processor combines the left-eye and right-eye images so that nothing else is required except a 3D capable monitor. A built-in HD-SDI frame synchronizer syncs the two cameras even if they lack external sync. The IF-2D3D1 also supplies anaglyph and sequential viewing modes to allow multiple ways to check 3D content.

“With the public’s renewed interest in 3D for both theatrically released content and beyond, many content producers are looking to repurpose existing 2D materials to meet demand,” says Dave Walton, assistant vice president of marketing and communication for JVC. “Meanwhile, other producers creating new content need an uncomplicated way to check their 3D footage on location. This single unit is ideal for both.”

Housed in a sturdy 1RU metal cabinet and compatible with a variety of HD formats, the IF-2D3D1 also features several advanced workflow features.  The Scope feature provides a waveform monitor and vectroscope to insure both cameras’ settings are matched. The Split feature displays both video streams on screen with a moveable boundary to allow instant left/right comparison. If one of the cameras is upside down to ensure correct spacing, the Rotation feature allows the producer to view both streams right way up and in sync.
