Belden Acquires Telecast Fiber Systems

On Dec. 18, Telecast Fiber Systems was officially acquired by Belden Inc., a leader in cable and wireless signal transmission and connectivity solutions. Alongside Telecast’s experience as a leader in fiber-optic systems for television broadcast production, the acquisition combines the strengths of two of the most recognizable brands in video and audio communications.

“Telecast is still Telecast,” says Richard Cerny, VP and chief operating officer of Telecast. “What this does is give us more markets for our products. We’re both big in the broadcast and sports business. Fiber and coax are going to coexist for a long time, and this way, we each get to benefit from the other technology.”

Together, Belden and Telecast can provide a complete copper-to-fiber architecture to help easily and cost-effectively deliver maximum performance in broadcast applications through lighter cable runs, expanded camera performance, and faster deployment. And Belden’s manufacturing and sales and marketing presence around the world enables Telecast to increase its footprint.

“Belden’s an old company, and they’re the leaders in coax cables,” Cerny says. “We get our share of the fiber business as well. This is a good way for us to cross-pollinate.”
