Remembering Camp Sohcahtoa

In the first version of my post Sines of the Times, I incorrectly stated that in a right triangle the sine was the ratio of the side opposite the angle to the side adjacent to it.  That’s actually the tangent.  A sine is the ratio of the opposite to the hypotenuse (the side not touching the right angle).  The mnemonic device I was taught for remembering this is Camp Sohcahtoa: sine opposite over hypotenuse, cosine adjacent over hypotenuse, tangent opposite over adjacent.

Somehow, despite my fond memories of Sohcahtoa, it came out wrong.  It has been corrected.  My thanks to Dan Grimes of the University of Nevada Las Vegas for pointing out the error.
