DIRECTV Sports Networks Names Bill Roberts VP Content

DIRECTV Sports Networks announced the hiring of Bill Roberts as the company’s new VP of content. In his role, Roberts will be responsible for strategically implementing programs that create, build, and drive the overall look and feel of the regional sports networks operated by DIRECTV Sports Networks, including FSN Northwest, FSN Pittsburgh, and FSN Rocky Mountain.

Roberts brings to DIRECTV Sports Networks more than 24 years of experience in television production, creative services, and programming development. His previous position was with Rainbow Media, where he served as the VP of programming and production. While there, Roberts was responsible for developing channel brands, programming strategies, supervising acquisitions, and identifying original projects for co-production or commission for three of the Voom HD networks.

Roberts spent more than 15 years at Rainbow Media, where he also served as the VP of interactive TV programming at Metro Channels (2000-2003), VP of development for Rainbow Sports/Radio City TV (1997-2000), and VP of programming and production at NewSport (1993-1997).

A graduate of Texas A & M University, Roberts began his television career in 1985 as the production manager/lead director for CBS-affiliate KBTX-TV in Bryan, TX. He also served as producer/director for CBS affiliate KENS-TV in San Antonio, TX, from 1989-1991. In 1991 his experience with regional sports networks began when Roberts became a creative services writer/producer at Prime Network and its affiliated regional sports networks.

Based in Seattle, WA, Roberts’ first day with DIRECTV Sports Networks is January 11, 2010.
