NBC to Air Six Kentucky Derby Prep Races

NBC Sports will broadcast six major prep races leading up to the Kentucky Derby this year.  The network currently owns rights to the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes and is looking to win back the first leg of Triple Crown when ESPN-ABC’s five-year Kentucky Derby contract run out in 2011.

According to The New York Times, the six races will be packaged into three one-hour telecasts, two on NBC and one on USA network, and will include the Louisiana Derby, the Lane’s End Stakes, the Santa Anita Derby, the Wood Memorial, the Blue Grass Stakes and the Arkansas Derby.
