Comcast’s Roberts: 3D Is Not the Future of 24-7 TV

Comcast Chairman Brian Roberts said the company is committed to 3D content, but he remains skeptical that 3D TV will catch on in the same fashion as HD TV.

In a Q&A session with the Wall Street Journal‘s Alan Murray at a Congressional Internet Caucus event, Roberts said he believes the bandwidth challenges that 3D presents were a good opportunity because it means somebody wants something. He also said most viewers would have 3D-capable devices in their homes in the next 10 years and is excited about the rather minimal price differential vs. a traditional TV.

However, Roberts also said that he was still not convinced that “we want to sit there all day long [watching 3D]. The question is, are you going to want to sit there and wear glasses four hours a day to watch TV. I don’t think so.”
