YLE Adds Audio-Routing System in Helsinki for Vancouver Olympics Coverage

Finnish public broadcaster YLE has installed a new audio-routing system at its Helsinki television production centre in time for coverage of the Vancouver Winter Olympics. The installation is based on the recently released NTP Technology 625-804 router, which is able to control external video switching and SDI audio embedding/extraction as well as the main sound and MADI matrices.

YLE has been using NTP products over the past eight years for both TV and radio and, in this case, worked with the manufacturer to develop a system to control Dolby 5.1 monitoring. The 625-804 is in a 2048×2048 configuration and will work with an existing NTP 625-803 that operates as a discrete routing node.

The two routers are in the main control room at the broadcast centre, with the 625-804 connected to a mixing console over a MADI link. NTP VMC660 software will run crosspoints, scheduling, and signal monitoring on the four-TDM bus modular router.
