Vancouver 2010: Verizon to Offer Interactive TV for Olympics Coverage

Verizon will offer a real-time news and information service to its FiOS subscribers, featuring interactive pull up elements that will allow viewers to access athlete bios, medal counts, and U.S. athlete updates while watching the Games on NBC Universal networks.

The service is run on the EBIF (Enhanced Binary Interchange Format) platform. All FiOS homes have set-top boxes that are EBIF-enabled, allowing for two-way communication.

Media Post reports that the technology was offered on a trial basis for the 2008 Beijing Summer Games in the Portland, Ore. market.
