ABC Affiliates Denounce Exodus of Sports to ESPN

Several ABC affiliates are voicing their unhappiness concerning the recent migration of the network’s sports properties to ESPN.  The affiliates complaints come on the heels of the announcement that ESPN will take eight NASCAR races off ABC’s fall schedule later this year. ESPN will also take over ABC’s coverage of the Rose Bowl beginning in 2011 and golf’s British Open in 2010.

According to Mediaweek, station executives believe that losing live sporting events will not only hurt their ad revenue, but also hinder their ability to promote other programming to the male audiences that flock to sports programming like NASCAR.
