Vancouver 2010: No Getting Around Tape Delay for NBC

At the 2010 Winter Games, NBC will air fewer events on tape delay than in previous Olympics because Vancouver is in time zone-friendly North America, but several events will still be recorded earlier in the day and show on the network in primetime.

Major skiing events, like downhill and slalom, need daylight and therefore cannot be run live for primetime TV. As a result, many of these events will be recorded and held for NBC’s evening broadcast. According to the Wall Street Journal, figure skating, speed skating, short-track skating, snowboarding and freestyle skiing will be shown live in primetime throughout most of the U.S.

However, the West Coast will have to wait and get every major event that airs on NBC with a tape delay.
