MIRA Mobile Television Improves HD Fleet with EVS, Chyron Upgrades

MIRA Mobile Television is in the process of completing the second phase of upgrades and enhancements to its existing HD fleet in an effort to keep up with client needs as well as technical advances.

Frank Taylor, MIRA Mobile Television, general manager, says second-phase improvements on M5HD, for example, include graphics and EVS instant replay system upgrades.

“All five of our HD trucks were designed and built to meet the needs of a specific client or market segment,” says Taylor. “The enhancements to M4HD and M5HD, as well as planned upgrades for our three newest HD trucks, are intended to keep these trucks in line with the current and future needs of our customers.”

One of the four-channel EVS LSM XT servers on board M5HD has been replaced with a six-channel XT[2] and a third four-channel EVS RO has been added. The EVS complement now stands at a six- and four-channel EVS LSM, plus three four-channel EVS RO servers. In addition, the Chryon Duet HyperX 2 and Duet LEX on M5HD are being replaced with the latest Duet HyperX 3 graphics platforms.

M4HD is also in line for additional upgrades. A new LCD production monitor wall will be added along with an Evertz VIP multi-viewer system. The monitor wall upgrade is almost identical to that done on M5HD and will be completed by the end of March. At the same time M4HD will have its Duet HyperX replaced with a Duet HyperX 3. Earlier this year M4HD had its audio board replaced as well.

During the summer of 2008 MIRA made significant upgrades to the routing and conversion infrastructure of both M4HD and M5HD. In addition, a new LCD production monitor wall and Evertz VIP multi-viewer system was added to M5HD providing the ability to monitor up to 114 sources.

MIRA operates 10 mobile units (five HD expandos, three digital expandos, one digital straight, and an analog expando). MIRA maintains offices and/or field shops in Portland, Oregon, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Vancouver, BC. The company has been providing remote television production services for more than 25 years, covering regional and national sporting events, entertainment programming, corporate and other special events.
