Germany’s Media Broadcast Selects T-VIPS CP560 Gateway for DVB-T2 Trial

T-VIPS and Media Broadcast, Germany’s national DTT operator, have announced that after extensive testing, Media Broadcast has chosen the T-VIPS CP560 DVB-T2 Gateway for DVB-T2 Trial Niedersachsen. This T-VIPS solution fills a vital gap in the DVB-T2 solution set for single frequency network (SFN) operation. The CP560 integrates with existing DVB-T headends and DVB-T2 modulators to enable DTT operators to take advantage of the considerable bandwidth efficiencies enabled by the migration to DVB-T2. These bandwidth efficiencies can be utilized to launch additional SD and HD channels, to increase video quality, or to improve portable and mobile reception.

“T-VIPS is a natural partner for our DVB-T2 trial because they are one of the few companies in the world to design and deliver advanced processing solutions to answer the specific issues of DVB-T2 service operation,” says Bertold Heil, head of strategy and business development, Media Broadcast. “The fact that T-VIPS has already launched DVB-T2 solutions, can demonstrate industry leading field experience of processing solutions for DVB-T as well as delivering a unique and advanced approach to single frequency network operation made T-VIPS an ideal DVB-T2 trial partner.”

The CP560 is part of T-VIPS’ cProcessor product family, a line of compact, powerful, and cost-effective products designed for advanced processing, multiplexing, monitoring, and SI-handling of MPEG Transport Streams.

The CP560 DVB-T2 Gateways, which are now live at the trial transmitter sites of Lueneburg and Rosengarten, provide a central point of control for DVB-T2 networks, enabling the operator to take advantage of the more efficient spectrum utilization promised by next generation terrestrial broadcasting. Situated in the headend after the multiplexer, the T-VIPS DVB-T2 Gateway protects an operators’ investment in existing DVB-T infrastructure and allows broadcasters to take advantage of the increased bandwidth efficiency offered by DVB-T2.

“Being chosen to play a crucial role in the Media Broadcast trial of this important new broadcast standard is proof that we have been able to build upon our leadership position in advanced DVB-T solutions and carry that experience and expertise into DVB-T2,” says Johnny Dolvik, CEO, T-VIPS. “We’re excited to be part of this important trial with Media Broadcast as the undoubted advantages of DVB-T2 will make it a must have for DTT operators looking to launch HD and other advanced services.”
