All Mobile Video Taps Telecast’s CopperHead 3200 Transceiver for Tapeless Production System

All Mobile Video has chosen Telecast Fiber Systems’ new CopperHead 3200 camera-mounted fiber optic transceiver as a key component in AMV’s HD Tapeless Carrypack production system. All Mobile Video (AMV) will be demonstrating the system in Telecast Fiber’s booth (C8925) at the 2010 NAB Show.

AMV purchased nine CopperHead 3200 units as a part of a significant upgrade of the technologies comprising the HD Tapeless Carrypack. The system offers AMV’s customers an advanced HD multiple-camera production system at an affordable rental price, and it can be assembled quickly and easily in a small-footprint production space. The HD Tapeless Carrypack is AMV’s first system to offer tapeless HD recording to solid-state memory cards, using up to eight 1920×1080 Sony PMW-EX3 and/or PMW-350 cameras. Mounted on the back of the cameras, the CopperHead 3200 systems provide a fiber optic link between the cameras and the production’s “video village” position via SMPTE hybrid cable.

“The Telecast CopperHead 3200 will be an integral component of our popular HD Tapeless Carrypack system by enabling transmission of return HD video, two-channel comms, two channels of audio, tally, and TDM multiplexing of up to eight cameras,” says Tom D’Angelo, director of rental services for AMV.  “These are all features that add great value to the types of budget-conscious productions for which the HD Tapeless Carrypack was designed. With the CopperHead 3200s, we’re able to replicate in a flypack form all of the features and quality our clients have come to expect from our production trucks, in a compact footprint and at an affordable price point.”

The CopperHead 3200 is the newest member of Telecast’s Copperhead family of camera-mounted fiber optic transceivers, enabling simultaneous transport of both digital (SDI or HD/SDI) and analog (NTSC or PAL) program video, as well as all two-way camera control, audio, video, data, tally/call, and intercom signals between the camera and the base station. Also, the CopperHead 3200 is the first to feature a 10/100 Ethernet path to provide a remote link to laptops and servers. The camera unit mounts directly to the camera’s battery plate (Anton-Bauer, “V”-Mount, or PAG) and provides for a variety of power options. Because the CopperHead 3200 transmits all signals digitally and optically, broadcasters and producers are assured of the highest quality video and audio — free from interference, grounding problems, or drifting due to temperature variations.

“AMV is the recognized pioneer of carrypack systems and is well-known for its innovations in comprehensive and yet lightweight production systems that are easy to transport and set up,” says Rich Cerny, VP and COO at Telecast Fiber Systems.  “The HD Tapeless Carrypack is a superb example, and we’re excited that the CopperHead 3200 is playing such a key role. At NAB, we pride ourselves on being able to demonstrate real-world technology solutions that incorporate our products, and we’re looking forward to partnering with AMV to showcase this powerful solution.”
