NAB Preview: Yamaha To Unveil New Audio Console, Interface Card

On display at Yamaha’s booth this year will be the brand-new M7CL-48ES digital audio console. Its main I/O interface is the SB168-ES remote stage box, and it connects via a single Cat-5 cable. The new console includes a built-in EtherSound interface with a third port for PC control and monitoring, eight Omni ins (mic/line), eight Omni outs, and three MY card slots. The M7CL-48ES supports up to three SB168-ES stage boxes and, like the M7CL-48, can mix up to 48 mono plus four stereo inputs to 16 mix buses, eight matrix outs, and stereo and mono outputs.

The new Stage Box Quick Setup feature provides plug-and-play connection of up to three SB168-ES units. With the built-in EtherSound interface, the M7CL-48ES gains all the benefits of a digital network infrastructure while allowing the card slots to be used for other purposes, such as personal monitoring systems and recording outputs. Because the new M7CL-48ES console runs the same software as standard M7CL consoles, there is direct file compatibility among all M7CL models.

Yamaha will also introduce its new broadcast interface card, MY8-SDI-ED. The MY8-SDI-ED, which is compatible with every Yamaha digital mixing console and DME series digital mixing engines, delivers 8-64 I/O channels, based on the number of consoles and cards used. The MY8-SDI-ED gives input and output of HD-SDI embedded audio signals. The card features one HD/SD-SDI input, two HD/SD-SDI outputs (same signal), and one through-output (re-clocked). It is able to de-embed up to two of the four audio groups, multiplexed in an HD-SDI signal, and has the ability to embed two audio groups into an HD/SD-SDI signal for output.
