Korean Satellite TV Provider to Transmit Sports in 3D, Launch Dedicated 3D Channels

Korean satellite TV provider, SkyLife, plans to broadcast live 3D sporting events in May and will eventually launch dedicated 3D channels. SkyLife is currently negotiating with Samsung, LG, and Fuji Film to produce the content.

According to The Korea Times, SkyLife is investing $4.5 million in 3D technology for the sports transmissions in May and will follow up with further investment for a seven-hour-per-day 3D channel, as well as a 3D-on-demand movie channel later this year and two full 3D-only channels in 2012.

SkyLife is developing technology by which subscribers with LCD sets with a refresh rate of 60 Hz or more can see the 3D effect.
