Adtec to Intro HDMI2QAM MPEG2 Encoder at NAB

Adtec Digital will introduce the HDMI2QAM dual channel, high and standard definition MPEG 2 broadcast distribution encoder with QAM modulation and RF Up-Conversion built-in at NAB 2010.  The HDMI2QAM encoder-modulator is a cost effective solution for HD video delivery over coaxial cable systems.

Primary applications are for use with clear QAM distribution to ATSC televisions.  The HDMI2QAM automatically detects video and audio, encodes, multiplexes and generates program information (PSIP); it then modulates and up-converts two channels for distribution via coax. Closed captioning, support for Emergency Alert (EAS), and Dolby Digital Audio are standard.

“This product saves thousands of dollars for people who need to put a high definition feed onto an existing RF cable system because they no longer have to purchase a separate hi-def video encoder and QAM modulator,” says Ron Johnson, V.P. of Marketing for Adtec.  Johnson also stated that since the product handles distribution of two unique inputs, less equipment is needed in the typical cable head-end.

For cable television applications, the unit modulates the signal using QAM annex A or B and up-converts two video and audio services multiplexed on one carrier frequency for distribution via coax networks.  Video rates are automatically adjusted based on HDMI video input, resolution, audio passthrough or encode and QAM modulation target.  The unit can be easily configured using the integrated front panel keypad and LCD screen or through use of a web browser based interface.

Distribution applications for Adtec’s HDMI2QAM include, but are not limited to, ATSC distribution, DVB Distribution, private cable, hospitality, medical, education, and cable television.

Adtec Intros DTVGuide for PSIP Scheduling, Delivery Service

Adtec Digital has released DTVGuide, a cloud based dynamic PSIP scheduling and delivery service. DTVGuide offers multi-format, electronic program scheduling and delivery service over the internet. DTVGuide is an ideal fit for broadcast, digital cable, and IPTV applications that require dynamic PSIP metadata to be delivered for consumer set top boxes and televisions. DTVGuide requires no additional equipment to set up and maintain, and no cost for access to the programming data. DTVGuide currently integrates seamlessly with the Adtec DTA3050 series multiplexer, but it can also be used with third party PSIP and SI generators capable of XML format consumption (requires integration). Users can create and upload their own program listings, or take advantage of over one hundred North American network programmers that provide data to Adtec’s servers on a daily basis.

DTA 3050: 10 port ASI Digital Multiplexer

The DTA3050 aggregates and processes MPEG, ATSC Digicypher, or DVB based services for traditional (satellite, cable, terrestrial) services. It boasts 10 ASI inputs, each supporting wire speed, a three-way mirrored ASI output, GIGE and optional SMPTE-310. Redundancy for ASI and SMPTE-310 is supported with an intelligent built in relay-by passed switch. The DTA 3050 is IPTV and BBTV ready today, it supports multicast and unicast configurations including SPTS/UDp, MPTS/UDP, MPEG and DVB tables. Encryption support includes DVB-CSA with Ethernet Simylcrypt, AES for use with Simylcryot compatible Conditional Access management Servers ( CAS) vendors.
