NBC Sports Restructructures Digital Media Department, Promotes Monaghan

Kevin Monaghan, currently SVP, Business Development for NBC Sports has added the title of Managing Director of NBC Sports Digital Media and will oversee all digital media initiatives for NBC Sports, including NBCSports.com, ProFootballTalk.com and Rotoworld.com.  Rick Cordella, GM of NBC Sports Digital has been promoted to VP/GM and will run the day-to-day operations of NBC Sports Digital reporting to Monaghan.  Perkins Miller, who has led NBC Sports Digital for the last four years was today named COO of Universal Sports but will continue to lead the digital effort for NBC Olympics. The announcement was made today by

NBC Sports and Olympics mobile and digital distribution initiatives will continue to be overseen by Hayle Chun who will report to Cordella in Sports and Zenkel in Olympics.  Rick Wolf will continue to lead business development for NBC Sports Digital while Tom Seeley will continue to direct editorial along with his sales and broadcast integration responsibilities and Eric Black will be charged with technology and Web operations. Wolf, Seeley and Black all will report to Cordella.

Monaghan was named SVP, Business Development, NBC Universal Sports & Olympics in November 2007 and will continue to report to Ken Schanzer, President, NBC Sports on NBC Sports business, and Gary Zenkel, EVP, Strategic Partnerships, NBC Sports.
“Kevin has been an integral cog in the growth of NBC Sports,” says Zenkel. “He always keeps a keen eye on the future and has led us into many highly profitable ventures.  Rick has overseen the tremendous growth of NBCSports.com integrating ProFootballTalk.com and developing its new and very successful blog strategy.  They are a great team and, along with our MSNBC.com partners in Redmond, will lead NBC Sports Digital into new endeavors and emerging areas for years to come.”

Monaghan served as VP, Business Development, NBC Sports from 1999-2007. He has worked in various business development, management and production roles on every NBCOlympics.com project since 1996 when he directed and created NBC’s first-ever Internet coverage of an Olympics. Prior to assuming his current post, Monaghan served as NBC Sports Director of Media Relations.
Cordella has served as GM, NBC Sports Digital since 2009. Under his leadership, NBCSports.com traffic has increased 111% (uniques – Feb 09 vs. Feb 10) largely as a result of editorial vision and his successful implementation around a sport-specific blog strategy. Prior to assuming his current post, Cordella served as GM, Fantasy Sports, where he managed NBC Sports’ fantasy sports properties. In 2008, the Fantasy Sports Trade Association (FSTA) honored Rotoworld.com as Fantasy Content Site of the Year. Cordella joined NBC Sports in August 2006 with NBC Universal’s acquisition of AllStar Stats, Inc., the parent company of Rotoworld.com, for which he served as GM.
